Was able to make it to the newsstand yesterday to flip thru the latest in the world of magazines and saw 2 of the ads we shot in Alabama in a ton of different magazines. Flippy flipping Co Stars.
Bigger versions after the jump.

We are back from a week of shooting Converse in Portland. I fall in love with that place more and more every visit. Here are some quick iPhone pics taken on down times, which there wasn’t much of.

We just got word that we are winners in the advertising category of the 2009 PDN Photo Annual for the work we did last summer for Converse in Portland. So stoked to be a part of it, it’s one contest that I’ve always paid attention to but never entered. In fact, this is the only contest we’ve ever entered and honestly probably would have forgotten to if it wasn’t for the constant reminders from our amazing reps. So, thank you ladies for putting the pressure on. It’s not that we’re lazy (even though we bought a brand new car in January of last year that has yet to be washed), it’s just for some reason we never think about it. It’s hard sometimes to turn off what you’re doing right now and sit down and look over older work, we’d much rather be shooting new stuff than showing what we’ve already done. But you have to sometimes and I’m glad we did. Maybe we were just secretly scared of losing? Who knows, but what I do know is it feels great to see your photos somewhere other than your book or computer screen and feels even greater when someone else likes what you’re up to and gives you a trophy for it. Is that what we get, a trophy? I’ll let you know. Working with Converse (and Brandon) over the last year has been so much fun and by the looks of it people are digging what’s been coming out of it. Maybe we’ll remember to enter another contest soon.

Claire and I (and team Day19) just spent a week in the deep south shooting some pictures. We’ve never really been to that part of the country before but I have to say it’s pretty great. It has similarities to Portland but with so many untouched locations it’s unbelievable. Spots that if they were in LA or NY would have been used on 50 album covers already. The negative, smokey bars! Man, my eyes were burning out of my skull. We had the most amazing team, an art director who knows us better than he probably wants to and a ridiculous amount of photos we are so proud of. None of which you will see here for obvious reasons. Here are some photos taken with our Ricoh GR2 mostly by our assistant Magda that we made sure no top secret information was leaked. So it’s mostly photos of us. We’ll show you the rest in 6 months or so.

An IM popped up yesterday from Mr. Schewchuck that went something like this…”Hey man, I’ve been seeing your photos all over town”. “Oh yeah? The Converse bus ads?”. “That and these Flosstradamus posters wheatpasted everwhere”. So off we drove to find one and the first block of posters we came across there was one, right up in the corner next to an Incredibad poster. We’ve made it!
Oh, and check out an interview with myself that reads like one big rum on sentence on TooMuchChocolate.org

We photographed Nascar driver Jimmie Johnson awhile back for an ad campaign for the newly relaunched Gargoyle’s sunglasses. We flew to Nascar country (North Carolina) for the shoot. Claire asked him if he had a need for speed or something and he said “not really, I just love competition and this is the most competition I could find”. Great answer. Apparently he wins a lot.
