Claire’s been spending a lot of time back in the darkroom lately printing until all hours of the night. She’s made some of these photos from Malibu we’re going to put up for sale to pay for Eli’s daycare. Hand printed by Claire herself! 5×7, come in a simple black frame, limited to 25. Typed on the front, signed and numbered on the back. $40.

Last month we got a quick job shooting a new band called The Young Veinswhile they recorded in a studio up in Laurel Canyon. Apparently they were in a band called Panic at the Disco and left to start their own thing. Nice kids, we wish them well. Here are some photo floating around the world we did of them. Thanks dudes.

Any long time followers of the day19 website will remember when we attempted putting up a photo of the day in a section cleverly titled “photo of the day”. We are going to attempt that again. We’ll see. The above photo is Peter Sutherland in the air.

I was reading THIS interview today with the photo director at Men’s Health that I found thru a link on Whats the Jackanory. At the end she was asked whose work she loves/follows and she mentions us! I’m not gonna lie, but I was getting jealous of the list who includes some big time picture takers whose names I actually recognize like Martin Schoeller and Dan Winters and then I see us! I got all excited and had to call Claire. Always feels nice.

Just arrived home in Los Angeles for a shoot after being all over the East Coast for a month to find this little beauty waiting for me. I talked with the dudes at MacNeil about a bike but honestly forgot they were sending me one. Its a 26″ cruiser in a very similar color scheme to a CycleCraft 24″ cruiser I raced in the late 80s (my mom has the photos somewhere I’m sure). Thanks MacNeil! Lots of photos from our east coast summer very soon.

We just got the issue of The Wire we shotMadlib for and it looks incredible! We are super excited, one because we love The Wire, two because they chose so many photos to run full page, three because we never get cover shoots so that’s exciting in itself, and four because it was such an awesome day. Check out bad scans of the layout and larger photos after the jump… plus a bonus outtake I dug.

In other news we just photographed Mariachi El Bronx in downtown Los Angeles for some Australian magazines and general press. We also shot ex members of Panic at the Disco Ryan Ross & Jon Walker in the studio for their new project. It also looks like we’ll be spending the rest of the summer in NYC, more on that soon.

We usually don’t post photos of our son Eli on here in an attempt to not look like crazy parents who only shoot their kids (he has his own blog at Day19.com/eli but I had to with this one. It’s an iPhone photo of our little man almost hanging 10 on the wrong kind of board. Fingers in the mouth, toes on the nose! That’s some smooth style. It’s actually 9X world champ Kelly Slater’s board but he won’t care about that stuff for a couple more years.
