if you’re going to San Francisco…dude.

Here are a lot of photos of the usual suspects from our trip to San Francisco a couple weeks ago. And here is a photo of one handsome man and his dog.

Holy crap, it’s June! It’s summertime, its almost halfway through the year. 2008 has been by far our busiest year so far in our picture making career, and not just because we have a little man on our hands now… we have been working pretty much nonstop since the year began. I’m beginning to think that countdown that happened December 31st wasn’t really to bring in the new year but for us to get ready to not sit still. We actually fell asleep around 10:30 on New Year’s Eve but whatever. I guess what I’m really doing is making up excuses for not blogging more.
Here are a couple things… last week we got to meet and photograph the insanely funny man Michael Ian Black for 8 pages of pictures and words in Death & Taxes. We also shot the band OK GO for Capitol Records, but no treadmills were involved. And um, we went to Vegas a couple times, went out to Joshua Tree for the first time, up to San Fran for a show we were involved with… and… we celebrated our 6 year wedding anniversary!
Also, we are very close to having a “music” section on our website, can you believe we didn’t have one already? It’s a lot bigger than we intended but we are very happy with it nonetheless. It’s done, and you can see it HERE if you want. When we find someone who has the time to change our front page a bit to add a button for music it will go live, anyone? Anyone?
Also also, We got a lot of emails from people asking advice (not love advice really, you can get all that at the Single Ape) or how we did this or that or all those things and lately I’ve been inspired by some photo business blogs I’ve been reading lately like APhotoeditor.com, and Business of Photography so we’ve decided to share any experiences we’ve had as a pro picture taking wonder duo on this here blog. So, email us any questions to info at day19 dot com and we’ll do our best to answer them. New photos up soon, I have to go to Trader Joe’s right now.

People in Northern California straight hate on Southern California. This, in my opinion, is due to these strange things called myths. Myths will often try and tell you things like, ‘there is such a thing as a unicorn’ and ‘if you aren’t a good little boy or girl you’ll get lost in the woods and an old lady who lives in a house made of candy will try and push you into an oven.’ In an effort to disprove certain similar myths that people have about Los Angeles, Brother Reade is staging a diplomatic campaign this weekend in San Francisco. As an act of good faith, there will be two free shows on saturday alone. One is at the RVCA store, and one is at Club 222. Flyers abound at Brotherreade.com. Come out and jam with us.
James.
ps
Brother Reade doesn’t necessarily deny the existence of unicorns, however we do endorse getting lost in the woods.

Saturday was Claire’s birthday BBQ in the backyard. Here are some photos from the day.

We have a photo in the new Juxtapoz Photo Issue on newsstands now. I usually don’t like Photo Issues of magazines for whatever reason (maybe because we aren’t in them) but this one is really impressive (and I’m not saying that just because we are in it). So go pick up a copy. We also have a dozen pages of our photos featured in a new art book called Apenest. Pick that shite up too. New news, Polaroid Project book out by before fall, more news on that soon.

Ok, so this is the beginning of the post I’ve promised about Piebald and their last shows. I want to start by saying we are so happy that we were able to make it out to Boston for the final shows ever, we said no matter what we were going to be there and it happened. We have known these guys for I guess about 10 years now and consider them not only some of our best friends but family, Travis even played “Here Comes the Bride” at our wedding! It was hard to be there and believe we may never see them play as a group ever again and it was hard to even edit these photos because I didn’t want to believe it was over. We have a ton of photographs of these guys from years past and are gonna post as many as we can here for the next week or so, so keep checking back. And if you are interested in prints of anything let us know, we would love for people to decorate their walls with some Piebald. Lots of photos after the jump. I hope we did justice of how amazing the last shows were.

Sorry for the lack of updates that people have been expecting but it’s been ridiculously busy and we will get to the blogging soon. The above photo was taken in Vegas yesterday, probably my favorite photo of me and the little man so far.

Trying to catch up with everything and the jobs keep coming. It’s a great feeling. We have a cool photo in this month’s Fast Company with Barack on the cover. Also photos in the new ReadyMade, Another, and Glamour. We have an interview in French in the new Blackpool magazine, in France. Vegas for a shoot this weekend. Piebald last show photos up very soon.

Sorry for the lack of updating over here but we just returned to Los Angeles after a 2 week trip back east for some photo shoots. One was to photograph Dan Houser, the man behind Grand Theft Auto for Rockstar Games (drops April 29th). We decided to stay awhile longer so Eli could meet everyone and we could go and catch the final Piebald shows ever. Working on getting all the photos up as we speak.

The offices.

New York has the same car as we do now, but theirs are yellow. More soon.
