Pennysylvania.

After New York for a couple days (a couple weeks ago now) we drove out to Pennsylvania to visit my mom, grandma, and our friend Kimberly who just bought a house out in Amish country. Have you ever seen a bait machine? We did on the way. More photos after the jump.

My grandma had an epic photo of my dad about to jump out of a plane, that’s him on the right and my Grandpa with Weiss on his helmet. My Uncle Allen’s in the middle and I don’t know who that other person is. For photos of Eli from this trip you’re gonna have to check out his website.

This is Kimberly. We’ve known her for ages from Boston and then New York. Well, I guess she got sick of New York and bought a house in Kutztown, PA that is hundreds of years old that is beautiful and needs lots of work. You can actually follow the whole project here.

This room had layer upon layer of wallpaper on the walls and ceiling.

attic.

Send her letters.

She brought us to some kind of Amish/farm/thrift store thing that was unlike anything I’ve even seen before in my life. There were multiple barns with tons and tons of crap and a few goodies in them. A thrift store junkie’s (Claire) heaven.

Kimberly found some kind of lawn cutting device.

These two bought the house together to bring it back to it’s glory. Two New Yorkers rebuilding a house in Amishtown.

Kimberly’s searching for a nice farmer, any farmer’s read our blog?

Mama and son.

Her floor was really nice, you can buy things she makes with her hands HERE so she can keep working on her 500 year old house.

Almost forgot, Eli grew a stache while in PA.

i love you two — three. can’t wait to see you next time you’re here. xoxo.
my favorite photographers near my old stomping grounds, wish i could have been there
I have a beard because I’m from Pennsylvania. It’s a requirement when you leave so that everyone knows where you come from.
the beard statement is very true
i am farm
That amish barn is called LIzzy’s and that’s cuz the Mennonite Lady who live there is named Lizzy! You just revealed my goldmine for the coolest shit to the world. I can’t believe I just randomly found this, Kutztown is obscure as hell but everyone who comes here stays here, I don’t get it. I’m friends with farmers around here-is she looking for food or a job?
I used to look at this blog quite some time ago, and after seeing a “day19” sticker in a picture of tom conrad, i came back only to see that you all were a short 30 minutes from my place in a place i know far too well, but wish i didnt- amish country. it’s always puzzled me why anyone would want to travel to see the amish, but i guess living here you have a different perspective on it. nevertheless your friend’s hosue is beautiful, and i look forward to seeing how it all turns out.
