Figueroa st
LA, CA 90039

\\

9 artists 49 collages

In these digital days it’s refreshing to see walls full of cut and glued images, crooked lines in colored pencil, torn edges, finger prints on dirty paper, romance and skulls, lines of a paintbrush in glue, handwork that you can see.

This Friday, Mar. 26th 7-10pm

All cut and paste collage from 9 artists with uniquely different viewpoint on the medium.

Leo Fitzpatrick: Discovered by Larry Clark skating in NY, he was quickly cast in the cult classic film Kids. He’s gone onto other critically acclaimed roles in The Wire, Serendipity, Bully, etc. Aside from acting, he has found time to bring his minimal collage aesthetic to several group art shows in LA and NY, and will be showing 8 pieces from his new work taking apart and reassembling from romance novels.

Will Bryant: aka “Mr. Fancy Pants” is a graphic designer /illustrator currently living in Austin Texas. He’s part of the Public School creative group and has shown at several group shows in the US and Europe.

Lola Dupré: Lola lives and works in Glasgow, Scotland. She has won several awards and is constantly showcased in European art magazines and had the cover of LA’s own Flaunt Magazine for last year’s art issue. Lola, in a brutal display of cleverness, decided long ago that all of her collages would come from a single photograph; printed several times in order to achieve her desired effect. The result is a very refreshing take on this art form.

Danger: Owner of famed occult / rare books shop KOMA. Danger’s style is on some next level esoteric vibe. Keep in mind all of his pieces are hand cut using a 99-cent pair of scissors, an exacto-knife, and he uses his own secret unique gluing technique, that creates a seamless painting of images. Keep in mind all of the images come from LIFE, old National Geographic magazines, and other mainstream mags.

Luis Farfan: THIS agent, freelance graphic designer / art director and proud resident of Downey (via central Mexico) is definitely taking a stab at re-interpreting pop-art, though he would not readily admit it.

Aaron Farley: Aaron’s a full time photographer, full time dad and full time THIS agent, a busy man to say the least. Last year he began a collage project (which would lead to this show) where he would work with images exclusively found in that day’s LA TIMES.

Danny Gibson: Graphic Designer and all around nice guy, Danny lives and works in Los Angeles. His work is surreal, abstract, and sometimes modern. No description could really do his work justice.

Joe McKay: Artist and proud new dad, Joe’s worked with a whole slew of stuff including the new album cover for Broken Social Scene. He regularly shows in various group shows around the country.

Natasha Sud: Natasha’s name was sent to us right after the cards were printed, but we had to add her on. If only for the beautiful work on the Watson’s Twin’s albums. It’s like a dream. Relationships, of animal headed people, horses holding flowers, all on a rug patterned sky. Her work is beautifully illustrative and colorful, and is a perfect match with all our other artists.

www.THISlosangeles.com
This Twitter

Our second show at that place we started opens this Friday night, followed by the US launch of our office mates/good friends Monster Children who’s first issue here in the USA has the first feature ever of our Polaroid project.
